01. Gelatine-Apatite-Composite
Electron microscopy

This laboratory-grown crystal of Fluorapatite is shown at different stages of its formation. On MPI Dresden it was possible to create a composite of Collagen and Calcium phosphate which is deceptively similar to the natural coating on teeth. In the meantime, the process could be developed into mass production.

Gelatine-Apatite composite is a component of a toothpaste used for sensitive teeth. Within a few weeks, the pain transmitting channels of the exposed tooth neck are closed. The composite actually grows into the enamel. Coloured scanning electron micrograph, Magnification x1700
